If you’re a history buff, then you’ll want to visit the Paramus Fritz Behnke Historical Museum. This museum was started in 2010, and its mission is to preserve and share the history of Bergen County. The Paramus Fritz Behnke Historical Museum features a collection of artifacts that highlight the history of the town of Paramus and Bergen County. The museum offers a glimpse of the area’s past, showing the changes in technology and how humans have grown over the years. There are two floors of exhibits, each with a variety of objects to see. For example, there is a reproduction of the first electric washing machine, which was manufactured in 1916, as well as an egg sorting machine and hand and horse drawn equipment used for farming.
On the main floor of the museum, there are displays displaying the early history of the borough and Bergen Pines County Hospital. Visitors can also look at the history of the Paramus Fire Department and the police department. There are also many old furniture pieces, tools, and appliances displayed.
The museum’s lower lever offers a 12-minute video presentation focusing on the history of the area. There are also displays of blacksmithing and woodworking. These tools were utilized in the early days of Paramus, as farmers needed these types of tools for their work. In addition to that, there are other items such as farm implements and an egg sorting machine.
On the upper level of the museum, visitors can take a tour of a farmhouse that was built 90 years ago. The furnishings of the home are authentic and showcase the lifestyle of a housewife and family. As you walk through the home, you will be able to see what it was like to live in Paramus during that time.
The Paramus Fritz Behnke Historic Museum also includes a section of vehicles from the past. This includes a horse-drawn McCormick Deering Harvester. Also, there are several antique farm implements, including an 1897 Rock Drill. A 1912 Case Threshing Machine is also featured.

The Paramus Fritz Behnke Museum is open one day a week. However, if you’re unable to make it during a regular business day, the museum is open on weekends.
