The mayor’s duties include voting in ties, vetoing ordinances, and assigning committees to the members.

Most appointments are made by the mayor with the approval of the council. A two-thirds majority vote of the council is required to override a veto by the mayor.

As of the 2010 Census, the borough had a total population of 3,559. Since 2020, the population has increased by 25.7%. The borough is part of the 11th Congressional District. It is represented by Mikie Sherrill (D, Montclair) in the 117th Congress.

The borough is also part of the 40th Legislative District, which is represented by Kevin J. Rooney (R, Wyckoff) in the 2023-2024 session. The borough was previously part of the 26th state legislative district.

With a population of 4,179, the borough has a lot to offer. For example, the median home price is $391,400. That’s about $73,445 more than the national average.
