This tiny town has become a hot spot for fans of all ages to visit and experience the channel’s rich history. The Nickelodeon Universe is a state-of-the-art TV studio and location that has been featured in a number of television programs and movie soundtracks, including American Ninja, The Wild Wild West, Robot Chicken, The Haunted Mansion, and more. The studio, located at the former location of Amusement World, is part of the Legends at Legends site in East Rutherford. It is the most recognizable studio at the Legends site, and is also the home of the popular Nickelodeon Stage.
The Nickelodeon Universe has been a part of East Rutherford’s history for quite some time. The first Nickelodeon Kids’ Club was held at the studio in 1971, and the channel has been here ever since. In the 80s, the studio was used for a number of Broadway shows, and in the 90s, it was the location for In Living Color and American Ninja. Most recently, the studio served as the home of The Wizard of Oz several months in 2017, after a 15-year absence.
The easiest way to get to the Nickelodeon Universe in East Rutherford, NJ is to take the PATH train, which runs between New York City and Newark, NJ. The train tracks run through East Rutherford, and the studio is located one stop east of the station. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a more active approach, there are a few options to get to the studio. A few miles away is the Audubon Race Track, where you can bring your own horses or rent theirs for a day of fun at this SECRET New Jersey Track. Alternatively, you can take the secluded Long Island beach route, where you can be on your own with no horses or people to keep you company!
If you’re staying in East Rutherford, NJ, take the PATH train to New York City or the Staten Island Ferry. From the city, take I-78 south to the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it exit (Exit 6) and follow the signs for “The Garden State Parkway.” Turn right onto the Parkway and drive about 50 miles to the east exit (Exit 6) of the parkway, where you want to turn left (north) to go to Route 18 (Cherry Hill Road). From there, it’s about a 15-minute drive to the studio. Check this out.
If you’re coming in the rainy season, there are a few options to avoid driving and parking. The Audubon Race Track is accessible by public transportation, as is the Long Island Town Hall. At the studio, there are parking lots on either side of the studio where you can avoid the rain. If you’re really interested in soaking in the mud, you can also take the ferry to Little Ferry, NJ. From there, you can take the Long Island Northern line to the terminal at Little Falls, where you can take a PATH train to the city or take the Long Island Railroad to Locust Point. From there, take a cab to the studio!
