Meadowlands Museum

The Meadowlands Museum Rutherford NJ is housed in the Yereance-Berry House, one of the oldest Dutch farmhouses in southern Bergen County. This historic home was once a private residence and is listed on both the state and national register of historic buildings. Visitors can experience the early 19th-century farm life in a real-life setting, with the Museum’s changing exhibits. The Iviswold, also known as the Castle, is a historical building that was built by newspaper tycoon Floyd W. Tomkins in 1887. Tomkins was a prominent developer in Rutherford, buying farmland in 1858 and subdividing the plots into building lots. He later sold the parcels to the Crane and Ivison families, who interrelated at the time. The Iviswold, as it’s now known, is a turreted mansion that was expanded and fitted with a pool in the 1930s.
