Jefferson Township Museum
The Jefferson Township Museum represents life in Jefferson Township in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. It is operated by the Jefferson Historical Society, which oversees the museum and the maintenance of the building. Located on Dover-Milton Road, the Jefferson Township Museum offers tours of the historical home. A monthly open house is held, allowing the public to view the museum. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities. They can visit the historic George Chamberlain House, which is a mansard-style building. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Jefferson Township Museum is also home to Miss Elizabeth’s Shoppe, which sells a wide selection of merchandise. Items include vintage dishware, postcards, spring blooms, cut glass and more. The shop is located in the original kitchen of the Museum, and is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 am-4 pm. There is also an outdoor sales table, where visitors can purchase items such as spring/summer designer handbags and fragrance sets. You can also buy historical maps and postcards of the area.
During the holiday season, the Jefferson Township Museum will be decorated for “A Gingerbread Christmas”. Visitors can take a tour of the historic home and see the ornaments, Christmas decorations and other Christmas items. Tours will be led by costumed docents. The docents will discuss various aspects of the Chamberlain family.
The Jefferson Township Community Chorus will perform a variety of holiday favorites, including Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Twas the Night Before Christmas, and Hevenu Shalom Aleichem. The band will also perform a selection of Christmas music on the Museum grounds. Those interested in purchasing a ticket may do so at the door.
In addition to the various events, there will be craft vendors and a live entertainment display. There will also be a holiday wreath sale. Children can participate in a “Touch-a-Truck” activity, sponsored by the Jefferson Township Fire Companies. Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

The Jefferson Township Historical Society is currently looking for docents. These volunteers assist with the organization of special events and help set up exhibits at the museum. Their job is to guide visitors through the museum and talk about the history of Jefferson Township and the Chamberlain family. The Museum is open Monday through Friday, noon to 5 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 pm. Tickets to the fireworks show are free. Several parking lots are available. No pets or drones are allowed. Organizers encourage carpooling.
Visitors can enjoy the annual “Jefferson Fest” on Sunday, November 13. From 12 to 4 pm, there will be a variety of fun events at the Jefferson Township Museum. Guests can enjoy the music of the DJ Earl Heller, who will keep the kids moving with musical games. Contact us
